This 8 week class will explore traditional drawing techniques such as use of line, mass drawing, value, cross-hatching, and observational drawing. Students will draw from life and from photos, working on landscapes, portraits, still-lifes and more. Students will explore a variety of mediums for drawing, such as charcoal, graphite, colored pencil, and oil pastel. Students will also learn how to critique each other’s artwork with constructive criticism. A studio setting means that this course will fit every skill level, from beginner to experienced artists.
Jen Richter is an oil pastel artist who lives in Haddonfield with her husband and too many pets. She was born and raised on Long Island, and received her BA in Art and Art History from Drew University. In her work, she enjoys combining traditional painting and drawing techniques with less conventional elements, like decoupage, metallic paints, glitter, or digital painting using Photoshop. She loves to include handwritten text, with an emphasis on oddball humor and stream-of-consciousness diaristic observations, and she’s inspired by bright colors and weird facts. Jen’s work can be found online HERE.
