Laughter Yoga is a new worldwide technique where anyone can laugh without reason. Through a combination of yogic breathing techniques, stretching, and self-generated laughter exercises, you are able to let loose and laugh like a child again. The concept of laughter yoga centers on the idea that the body benefits from any type of laughter; whether it is real or fake, it cannot tell the difference. We can all relate to the great feeling of a good laugh, but did you know just how beneficial laughing is for your health?
Laughing has several benefits:
- Relief of depression or anxiety.
- Allows you to deal with stress better.
- Improves cardiovascular health; improves blood flow.
- Helps to create a positive attitude.
- Exercises your lungs and diaphragm.
- Increases endorphins.
- It is simple, fun, and leaves you feeling great.
The practice of Laughter Yoga began in 1995 when Dr. Madan Kataria, a medical doctor is Bombay, India had the idea to start the laughter club so that people could use it as a form of work out to improve their wellbeing. Eventually, his wife, a yoga teacher, incorporated a series of yogic breathing and exercises into the sessions to enhance the health benefits. In time, the phenomenon grew from one club of five people to thousands of clubs spread across 60+ countries.
