Artist Reception: Saturday, November 23 4:00-6:00 PM
Please join us this holiday season as we celebrate the work of Gary Caal.
I earned my BFA at The University of the Arts, in 1987 and my MFA at The University of Delaware, in 1990. The drawings and paintings reflect my traditional approach towards drawing and painting.
The figure drawings were done over the past thirteen years at Life Drawing Sessions at Lafayette College, Easton, PA. The drawings range from quick two-minute poses to thirty minute sketches. The work is done using drawing tools such as; pencil, conte pencil and charcoal.
The paintings were done during the years 1993 to 2019. In all cases, the work was oil on canvas. The size of the work was dictated primarily on the size of the studio I was working in during that time. The portraits consist are self-portraits and portraits of my close friends and colleagues. The still life paintings were done from direct observation and created during all times of the day and night reflecting my interest in specific subject matter and tactile qualities of various items.
The digital are demonstrates my interest in fusing the elements of fine art into the digital art world. The work was done primarily with Corel Painter and a Wacom Stylus pen and pad.
Overall, my work displays my interest in the immediacy of drawing, the absurd unpredictability of painting and my interest in the constantly evolving digital art world.
