Opening Reception: Friday, October 20, 2017 – 7 PM to 9 PM
This juried exhibition in Markeim’s main gallery will celebrate the fall season. Artists are encouraged to submit new and challenging perspectives of the colors and creatures of fall in a variety of media, including paintings, photography, textiles and sculpture. This invitational is open to all current Markeim artists and their invited guests.
The juror for this exhibit will be Valerie Bruder. Val has been a professional photographer for many years. She loves animals and a large part of her photography passion is devoted to the world of animal/pet photography. In her spare time, she photographs homeless animals for several local shelters and rescues in order to increase their changes for adoption. As the owner and founder of her own photography studio, together with years of involvement with all facets of animal rescue, the marriage of her entrepreneurial spirit and love of all things furry made her involvement HeARTs Speak, a natural extension. HeARTs Speak is a 501c3 international nonprofit organization that’s uniting art and advocacy to increase the visibility of shelter animals. Her photography has a oneness of purpose – to capture an image that exemplifies the personality of every subject that she photographs. A perpetual student of the digital arts, she balances her time between her not-for-profit work and searching for the perfect landscape/cityscape/nightscape photography location. She can often be found exploring the Eastern seaboard with her camera bag, a Starbucks decaf and a hooded sweatshirt containing not-so-subtle traces of canine hair.
