Opening Reception: April 6, 2018 7PM-9PM
Back by popular demand is our biennial Fibers, Fabrics and Foundry exhibition – Markeim Arts Center invites artist to submit contemporary and innovative work to this unique and eclectic exhibition.
Fiber and fabric art refers to fine art whose material consists of natural or synthetic materials, plus other components, such as beads or yarn. Foundry refers to work created using metal, glass or both. All of this work focuses on the materials used, and on the craft and manual labor on the part of the artist as part of the works’ significance, and prioritizes aesthetic value and creativity over utility.
The juror for this show will be Nelson Más. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Nelson is owner and founder of Geek Emporium. Now residing in Staten Island, New York. Nelson’s sculptures, as well as his hand etched glass art, can be found in galleries, shops, and restaurants throughout the Northeast, as well as on Etsy. Becoming a well-known glass artist in the east coast convention circuit has given him the chance to work side by side with celebrities and famous artist alike. Joining the art teaching team of Markeim Arts Center over this past year has given Nelson the chance to help children express their creative sides and see the art that’s all around them.
